Meet Rev. Sonya Redd
New Jersey State ACT-SO Chairperson
Sonya Redd is a life member of the New Brunswick Area Branch of the NAACP. She is the initiator and architect of the NJ State ACT-SO program. She also served as the State Chair from 1990 through 1995. Because of Ministerial responsibilities, Sonya resigned as State Chair in December of 1995. However; she continued to serve as a judge during State Competitions.
For the past 21 years, Sonya has served on the National Core Team of ACT-SO beginning in 1996 until present.
As Assistant Pastor of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church in Newark, Rev. Redd serves as the Director of Christian Education and Overseer of the Evangelism Ministries. In addition she has been employed for the past 20 years as an Account Management Specialist in the Customer Service Dept. of an international Chemical Company.
Her Educational background includes New Brunswick Theological Seminary, where she pursued her Masters of Divinity, Bloomfield College for Women, Business Administration and Glassboro State College. God has blessed her to be the mother of two children and the grandmother of five.
Rev. Redd says part of her ministry will always involve working to positively affect youth and young adults. She believes God has given everyone gift(s) and talents. It is the responsibility of adults to motivate, encourage, and support our youth in helping to discover and enhance their gifts/talents and realize their potential.
